Quarteira – An Interesting Travel Destination.


If you are interested to spend your holidays in a coastal region in order to enjoy the cool breeze of the sea and the serene beauty of the coastline then you should surely visit Quarteira. It is a Portuguese civil parish situated in the municipality of Algarve.
Quarteira was a simple fishing village for several centuries. It is situated on the edge of the coastline, encircled by pine trees. The first cultivation of sugarcane was carried out in the 15th century by the orders of King John I of Portugal. The nearest places to Quarteira are Albufeira in the west, Almancil in the east, Sao Clemente in the north east, and in the north are Sao Sebastiao and Boliqueime.


Quarteira is an ideal place for family vacation. A large number of hotels and apartments are located near the beach so that tourists can enjoy a better view of the sea even while they are resting in their rooms. There are also many restaurants and cafes where people can enjoy refreshing drinks.
If you are really attracted to the sport golf, then this place will never fail you. People visiting Quarteira can also enjoy water sports of different kinds. Children can safely play in the sandy beach of this area as there is a chain of breakwaters so that the sea waves get calm and thereby provide better conditions for swimming. Tourists coming to this place can enjoy playing tennis, bowling, karting, horse riding etc. There are a number of water parks in this area including Aquashow where people can visit with their family. People who enjoy quieter form of activity can take strolls along the sandy beach and enjoy the scenic beauty.


The gypsy market that is organised every Wednesday in this area attracts a large number of people. While shopping from this particular market a person should always bargain to get the best deals. There are also several shops where tourists can buy cheap and enchanting souvenirs as a reminder of this place. In nearby Almancil you will find the outdoor go-kart track at Almancil Karting.


The architectural attraction in this place is simple eye-popping. One of the most notable examples is the Roman Ruins of Cerro da Vila. It is highlighted by the two residences, the necropolis, baths, dam and the fish salting stations. The Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, located in the older part of the town, is another serene feature of the place. The other important buildings are mainly of the civil, military and religious backgrounds.
If you plan to come to this place then you should surely witness the festival of Marchas Populares. It is one of the oldest traditions practiced in Lisbon. It usually takes place in June. The songs, dances, choreographies, costumes, letters, colours, lights etc. creates an enchanting atmosphere.

Night Life  

The night time scenario becomes quite exciting in Quarteira as there are a large number of casinos, bars and discos where people can party or hang out.


People can enjoy different types of culinary dishes when they visit this place. Shellfish as well as fresh fishes are used to prepare most of these dishes. “Caldeirada”, “cataplanes”, grilled sardines are a few examples of popular dishes available in this area.
