The Spectacular Sandy Beach Praia Da Amoreira, Western Algarve, Portugal

Praia da Amoreira is a breathtaking sandy beach located on the western coastline of Algarve, within Aljezur municipality in Faro District, Portugal. Praia da Amoreira (Portuguese for “Mulberry Beach”) is a popular tourist destination in the Algarve region and it is part of the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, one of the thirty national parks protected by the Portuguese law.

This spectacular clean beach is situated 71,8 miles north-west of Faro, the capital of Faro District. To get there, you must pass through the village (parish) of Aljezur, then through Rogil parish. Take a left turn just before Aljezur Sports Center (there is a tourist sign with the name of this beach) and drive down this scenic road until you reach the car park on the north side of the beach. Located at the mouth of the river Aljezur, this entertaining beach with golden fine sand backed by grand sand dunes is popular among teens and adults alike. When the weather conditions allow it, the sea is perfect for paddling, surfing, swimming and bodyboarding. The magnificent lagoon formed when the tide is low is excellent for various fun-filled activities for the entire family. The multitude of rock formations and rock pools are perfect for tourists who love to explore the uniqueness and mesmerizing beauty of the “Mulberry” beach.

During the summer season, the beach is patrolled by experienced lifeguards, who supervise the safety/rescue of all surfers and swimmers and who are well-trained in first aid. When the tide is high, you should be very careful because the currents which come close to the mouth of the Aljezur river can be pretty powerful.

At each end of this extremely clean beach, there are cafes, bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the Portuguese cuisine or a cooling drink in a breathtaking breezy ambiance. On the north side of the beach, Restaurant Paraiso do Mar (Sea Paradise) has a splendid terrace where you can eat some of the Portuguese specialities such as fresh grilled fish.

There are two car parks located on the cliffs at both ends of Praia da Amoreira. The car park located on the northern side is bigger, but both of them have easy access down to the beach by stairs and wooden boardwalks, both in top condition.
